A Campus for All

Aligned with one of the university’s long range development plan projects and the UHM campus framework team, the studio developed an inclusive design framework for the design of an 80,000 square foot classroom and administrative building at the center of campus. The studio explored four inclusive design focus areas: physical mobility, mental health vulnerabilities and neurological differences, social and cultural equity, and gender equity. Students developed research protocols, conducted interviews, and mapped inequitable campus characteristics to develop an inclusive design framework that guided their architectural and open space designs.
